A Culture of Inclusion at The Rockwell Automation Fair®

POSTED BY TURTLE & HUGHES INDUSTRIAL CONTROL & AUTOMATION DEPARTMENT BLOG IN INDUSTRY NEWS & EVENTS

There is a new program at this year’s Rockwell Automation Fair® that will focus on developing a culture of inclusion and diversity in the manufacturing industry.  The annual free event, scheduled for November 15-16 in Houston, is an opportunity to see new product releases from both Rockwell Automation and its Encompass Partners, attend free training, network, and share best practices.

According to the diversity program description in the Automation Fair® Program, “Manufacturers today face a significant challenge in attracting and retaining talent, as their most experienced personnel retire in a ‘silver tsunami’ over the next several years. Changes in demographics and expectations of the millennial generation, which will constitute a fast-growing part of the workforce, will need to be addressed. A company culture of inclusion and engagement, along with a focus on environmental stewardship, community involvement and high ethical standards will be critical to attracting and retaining the best talent.”

A culture of diversity has long been proven to increase business performance. A 2015 McKinsey Report held that gender diverse companies are 15% more likely to outperform their peers. For ethnically diverse companies, that figure rises to 35%.

At Turtle & Hughes, we know from experience that one of the greatest advantages of a diverse culture is the different perspectives it brings to solving problems and overcoming business challenges. These diverse thoughts usually lead to new ideas and innovative breakthroughs.

This was confirmed by a key finding in a Forbes Insight research paper, which states, “Diversity is a key driver of innovation and is a critical component of being successful on a global scale. Senior executives are recognizing that a diverse set of experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds is crucial to innovation and the development of new ideas.” The study also found that a diverse and inclusive workforce is crucial to attract and retain top talent.

By expanding the conversation and sharing best practices at the Automation Fair®, Rockwell Automation is demonstrating its leadership in the industry and its commitment to building a culture of inclusion.
