When it opened in 2013, the Catskill-Delaware Ultraviolet Disinfection facility became the world’s largest UV water treatment facility. Using revolutionary technology, the center treats over two billion gallons of drinking water per day and adds a layer of protection for more than nine million New York residents.
Turtle & Hughes Power Distribution & Automation Solutions (PD&AS) group was brought in prior to approval for construction. Our specialists consulted on engineering and design, maximizing efficiency with their early involvement. During construction, we provided project management, integration support, process software and control hardware to contractors, equipment manufacturers and system integrators. Systems included: Power Distribution, Electrical Monitoring and Control (EMCS), Process Monitoring and Control (PMCS), and HVAC Control.
Today, we continue to support the New York Department of Environmental Protection and their investment in clean, fresh drinking water by providing round-the-clock technical support for facility operation.
Playing a key role in the World Trade Center redevelopment site has been one of the most privileged experiences in our company’s history.
It was one of the most complex public works projects in our nation’s history. Through 13 years of development, Turtle & Hughes has provided expertise in power distribution and project management to Tower One, Tower Four and the World Trade Center Chiller Plant. Our engineers developed power distribution and tunnel ventilation smoke exhaust systems to the 225,000 square foot Santiago Calatrava Valls-designed Transportation Hub. Our lighting specialists transformed 14 floors of offices in Tower 4 that now shine bright on a new generation of World Trade Center workers.
When One World Trade Center opened, it became the new gold standard for architecture, safety and sustainability. As the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere, it has redefined Lower Manhattan and the entire New York City skyline.
Every wire and cable is powered by the weight of history. The buildings endure as a soaring reminder of our nation’s resiliency.
Since 9/11, many financial firms have moved their secondary data centers out of New York City and into New Jersey while relying on Turtle & Hughes for their power infrastructure needs. When one of the world’s largest financial institutions opened a new Mission Critical/Data Center in the Garden State, we put together a package that combined the strengths of three manufacturers to meet the rigorous requirements of our customer.
Using Eaton medium and low voltage switchgear along with PowerCon Corporation 26Kv switchgear and Virginia Transformer Corp. substation transformers, our Power Distribution & Automation Solutions (PD&AS) department, engineered a precise solution to support our customer's need for high-speed connectivity, reliability and security. This guarantees their customers real-time financial data and efficient transactions worldwide. The new electrical power distribution system provides an impressive 20MVA of power.
Another key component to our success was our ability to meet a very aggressive timeline for delivery, orchestrate activities with the local utility and provide on-going, yearly facility maintenance through our PD&AS field service group.
Quality and reliability are top priorities for customers in the Oil & Gas industry. If oil field equipment is not at its best, it could affect productivity, profitability and, most importantly, safety. That is why our Houston, TX, office has partnered with Eaton to service a customer who is engineering multiple well pads in Chad, Africa.
Eaton is a global technology leader in power management solutions that makes electrical, hydraulic and mechanical power operate more efficiently, reliably, safely and sustainably. We knew they were the perfect partner because of their innovative design capabilities. That, along with Turtle & Hughes' technical expertise and ability to export product to Africa on a very tight deadline, made it a perfect fit. Turtle & Hughes Houston will provide on-going product and project management services over the next three years of development.
Construction began in the Chad oil fields in 2000 and oil started flowing to market in 2003. The result has been significant economic growth and development to the country and its 13 million residents, adding even wider implications to our on-going project commitment.
